As a police officer I first became interested in the art of Brazillian Jiu Jitsu due to its manner of teaching submission of opponents while on the ground. Most physical encounters in my line of work are not planned and happen unexpectedly, because of this it is not only possible but very likely that an encounter with a suspect may end up with I or him off of our feet and on the ground. What would I do if my opponent was lying on top of me? What if he was twice my size? How could I neutralize an opponent safely if the situation did not authorize me to use deadly force? These are just a few of the questions that our departmental academy training left me with.
I have trained BJJ for three years now and it has given me the confidence and knowledge to not only survive a physical encounter but to also employ techniques of submission that were developed out of a true desire for self defense.
Training at Genesis Jiu Jitsu has led me to a great appreciation of the art and I am constantly learning new and valuable techniques from the instructors and training partners there. The instructors are well known in this region and are excellent at instructing any age student. I would like to just genuinely take this time to thank both of y’all for everything while I was up in Fort Worth. I didn’t know what to expect and to be honest I was completely blown away by y’alls school, students and lifestyle. I left up there thinking I really liked jiu jitsu.. But after training and hanging with y’all, I find myself overwhelmed by the sport! You guys most definitely have something unique up there and it’s truly inspiring. Not only did my jiu jistu improve dramatically but my overall attitude and outlook on almost everything improved as well..
The atmosphere you guys present as coaches , instructors and friends is remarkable! I can only hope one day I can have the same impact on my peers that y’all have had on me. … I think an area where your academy is strong is in coaching. Every tournament that I have attended since you guys opened Genesis has had quality athletes sent from your school, and you two are always sure to be present to support your competitors as well.
